One of the many pieces housed in the Palacio de las Dueñas and particularly one of those that represents the greatest attraction of all the cultural and artistic wealth to visit in Seville.
Inside the Palace, it stands out in the Antechapilla, next to the entrance of the Poster Room, where it was replaced this year after traveling to Dallas and Nashville as part of an exhibition consisting of several artistic pieces from the Casa de Alba Foundation collection.
This is an oil on canvas painted in the 17th century by the Spanish artist Jose de Ribera, although until recently it was attributed to Caravaggio. It is a work with a religious theme framed in the Baroque style, specifically in Tenebrism.
The figure of Christ is seen in the center of the painting, surrounded by reddish clothing that gives movement to the scene, while two characters with mocking gestures, in the background, place a crown of thorns on him while He seems to wander into another world, different from this one.
